Prof. Sham Tickoo is currently working as a Professor at Purdue University Calumet, USA. He received MS in Industrial Technology (1989) from Northern Illinois University, Illinois, USA; and MS in Industrial and Management Engineering (1980) from University of Lowa, Lowa City, USA. Before joining Purdue University in 1987, Prof. Tickoo has worked as Design Engineer, Quality Control Engineer, and Software Developer. Prof. Tickoo has authored/coauthored textbooks on several major CAD/CAE/Animation software packages like SolidWorks, CATIA, Pro/Engineer, NX, AutoCAD, Customizing AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT, Solid Edge, 3ds Max, 3ds Max Design, Autodesk Inventor, Mechanical Desktop, and VIZ. In addition to North America, his textbooks have been translated and published in Russia, Japan, India, South Korea, and Serbia. These textbooks have brought unmatched pride and recognition to the Engineering Technology department and Purdue University. Prof. Tickoo has obtained over $24 Million software grant from ANSYS, IBM, and Siemens. He has also developed a web site that provides free teaching and learning resources to faculty and students. Since 1992, over half a million users have visited his web site and are using the resources on a regular basis.

do not get kindle version

Even though I like its paper version (5 stars), this kindle version is useless in all means. Major part of its graphical illustrations are pixelized so badly, so that it is impossible to see or read what it tries to deliver. I will just stick with its paper version until I see significant improvement in the future editions. Sorry Dr. Tickoo.

Great Visual Book

I thought that this was a great book! The images of Da Vinci's notebook are excellent. Although if you are looking for a translation of the pages this is not the book for you. This book only gives brief descriptions of what is written on the page - which is to bad because what they translate from his notebook only makes you want to read more of what Da Vinci wrote about. Overall I thought it was a great book for reference. I could not ask for more beautiful images.

This is a peach of a book, as delectable as the Sun Crest peach Masumoto is struggling to save. It is a superior variety as to taste but has a short shelf life. The author, a third-generation farmer, gives an eloquent account of one year on his farm in the California desert. He notes that grape and tree fruit farmers are deprived of an annual rite that other farmers have?planting a new crop. Peach trees are planted every 15 to 20 years; grapevines, once in a lifetime. And, according to the author, a new planting is like having another child, requiring patience and sacrifice and a resounding optimism for the future. Masumoto is a third-generation fruit grower in Del Ray, California. In his simple memoir, the college-educated farmer discusses the continual challenge of growing fruit in an area where annual rainfall is marked in single digits (irrigation is the answer) and weeds threaten to overtake the crop. In chronologically arranged chapters that extend from spring planting to summer harvesting to winter waiting, Masumoto reflects on a variety of topics, including the fact that his succulent, organically grown peaches, which have a shelf life of only one week, aren't in demand; and his recollection of losing 35,000 trays of drying raisins to intense rainfall reveals why he always "feels persecuted by the power of nature." Fascinating story of one Japanese family's hard work raising peaches for a living. Much good information. It was chilling, however, to learn about the Japanese being sent from their own property during WWII because our country feared they would rise up against us.

I want to eat those Sun Crest peaches.....and I will try to find them. In this complex, and many times destructive, world it is good to know there is a Masumoto on the creative side of the scale. .

Best book about farming I've ever read

"Epitaph" is a gem and a masterpiece. Masumoto is a good farmer, a truly dedicated family man and a gifted writer. The story is in part about his love affair with a wonderful variety of peach.
City people will know why supermarket peaches disappoint and country people will recognize the sad story of a farmer who, the harder he tries the more frustration he finds. The peaches you find in the supermarket are there because the consumer/supermarket/broker/ value "shelf life" more than flavor.
Peaches don't travel well and they don't last long. The farmer must choose the right variety, prune it exactly the right way at exactly the right time, fertilize and water at the right time, pray fervently for the right weather conditions.
Only then, if the peach absorbs enough sun to fully mature, will it have the full bursting ambrosial flavor a peach should have. Only the sun can make a peach sweet and flavorful. Most really delicious peaches won't last more than three or four days after they are picked.
A good peach should be eaten as it is right out of hand. Not put in a pie or jam or cake. Only a good farmer can grow a perfect peach and no supermarket want them. Where is the answer?
You'll fall in love with farming and weep a bit as you read the Masumoto family story. Perhaps you won't fully appreciate what today's farmers are up against, but this book will give you more insight than you ever had before.
If you are from a farming family you will fully appreciate every word of this beautiful story of a San Joaquin Valley farm.

A fun audio book

My 4yo LOVES this CD/book. We listen to it in he car all the time and she loves acting out the characters when we read the book together. She has a few (Sofia, good dinosaur, sleeping beauty) but this one is probably her favorite. Side note, we've borrowed a few other ones from the library and a weird thing is the Cinderella one has the same exact music.... Lol. My daughter loves it tho!
