Truly a mixed bag....

This book has some real pros and some real cons. The *majority* of the advice given is practical, no nonsense etiquette. For this reason I would heartily recommend this publication to a gentleman looking to improve upon such areas in his life. There are other books however that he should supplement his learning, in my opinion.
Now, having said that, there are some glaring problems w/ this book.
I.) The suggestion that a man should NEVER turn down an invitation is nuts. The author gave the reader the out in the event of illness or death in the family. Come on, there are times, for whatever reason, that you have to respectfully decline.
2.) Drink beer from a CAN!?! How did that slip in there? First, at a truly formal occasion you simply don't suck down the suds. At any other occasion it is more than acceptable, but how hard is it to put it in a glass? Drinking beer from a can in your living room by yourself (or w/ your wife) after a long hard week, sure that's fine, but elsewhere drink from a glass.
3.) There is one point that states simply, "If a gentleman can afford to do so, he should have someone else clean his home." Why? There is a fine line between snobbery and etiquette and this crossed it. If it said if the man and his wife are to busy to keep a house clean, then that would make a lot of practical sense. Otherwise, it's a waste.
4.) The other gives the reader full liberty to not wear socks in many occasions, but says w/o question he must wear a undershirt. Though I live in the North and always wear the two aforementioned articles, I could see why a gentleman from Dixie would not want to wear an undershirt during the summer. Socks are a must, IMHO.
5.) The quib about always bringing condoms was both out of place and inappropriate in my opinion. Such sexual matters are both personal and vary depending on a gentleman's religious background. It didn't belong in this book.

Etiquette for the Educated Man

This easy to read book makes manners a matter of preference. The educated man can make a decision to accept the authors guideline or not. I personally do not have much occasion to entertain large parties in my home - so I feel no need to have every piece of silverware known to man, but if I needed to help host a large party, I would be prepared. I like the chapter breakdown and the way subjects intertwine, allowing for fast referencing should the need occur. I consider myself a man pretty in tune with etiquette but this was a good shot in the arm. This book is great for those who might not know the basics or for one who might be very well mannered. This Christmas all my Brothers-in-Law and nephews are getting this book plus a stack of Thank you notes.

A handy guide for the contemporary gentleman

This is the sort of book interesting only to those people serious about self-perfection. The book offers easy and handy tips for how to behave as a gentleman -- and far from the typical GQ/Maxim/Men's Health ideal of manhood, this book aims to help the reader achieve refinement and dignity. "A gentleman," as the author puts it, "is someone who makes others feel comfortable." "His goal is to make life easier, not just for himself but for his friends, his acquaintances, and the world at large." Nothing in here about how to flatten your abs in three weeks, succumb to the latest fashion trend or technological fad, or get 'her' into bed. But neither is this book simply moralistic. Rather than ethics, it is concerned with manners and maintaining a decent, honest, and caring public persona.
I think it's unfortunate statement on our contemporary society that such a book needs to be read; but it is encouraging that people may read it.

A thorough introduction, but hard to swallow

This was my first book on go. There's no question that it has all the information anyone could ever need to get started playing what I consider the greatest game in the world. However, for most Westerners, the material is very difficult to digest. I believe there are a couple of reasons for this: first, remember that this is one of the top players of the last century, writing a book for beginners. He's lost some of the appreciation for the hefty learning curve the game imposes on the uninitiated. It can be discouraging when he tells you how "easy" some of this stuff is (which, of course, is true once you understand it, but not at first). Second, as some have noted, the book is "concise." I might go a step further and call it "dense." I like this quality in books I read now (as a better player), but as a beginner, it was tough. Third, Iwamoto takes a bottom-up approach, which probably works for some, but left me missing the forest for the trees. A section typically begins with an example (board diagram), and says "In this situation, White needs to play at X, or Black will capture three stones at Y." The principles behind the examples tend to be glossed over, and without a background in the game, I had no idea how to generalize.
Eventually, I did in fact absorb all this material, even without a mentor to help my play along. With the benefit of hindsight, however, I find Janice Kim's "Learn To Play Go" series much, much easier to digest at the beginner level. True, Iwamoto covers in one book what Kim covers in four, but the first two suffice to get you rolling without banging your head against the wall (important if we're going to spread the GOspel throughout the West).

best available introduction

I am only a beginning Go player, but I have ransacked the bookstore shelves for a solid introduction to the game, and this work is by far the best.
Part I provides an amazingly clear explanation of the rules. Part II explains the basic strategy and tactics necessary to play an opponent and understand what you are doing. The only serious alternative, Janice Kim's series of volumes, moves at a snail's pace ideal for people unused to playing other strategy games (for example, chess). Although Kaoru Iwamoto wrote this book in the 1970's, it has the look and feel of a work written in the 1990's. You will be captivated and inspired to pursue the game further.
Incidentally, beginners in search of Go opponents should take advantage of the free real-time services on the Internet. You can watch games between world-class players or challenge any of hundreds of ranked opponents. Along with buying this book, I recommend visiting IGS Panda Net, registering yourself, and downloading gGo and GNU Go.

A Superb Intro to the World�s Oldest Game - David Bronczyk

Since learning the essentials of Go in 1978, I've read two exceptional books for beginners: this one by Iwamoto, and "Go: A Guide to the Game" by D.B. Pritchard (an out-of-print book published by Stackpole Books in 1973). Both books give the neophyte a glimpse into the game's unmatched strategic and tactical subtlety - far greater than that of chess - and its storied past, and both build a solid foundation for developing true mastery. Iwamoto's scheme of organization is excellent, and the sequencing of the basic elements is very logical. I needed several readings in order to digest all the densely packed concepts and examples, but I persisted, reminding myself that it would be unrealistic to expect easy and early prowess in such a deceptively simple "children's" game. I would recommend that a would-be Go player read this book while playing (i.e., freely experimenting and improvising) with computer Go - David Fotland's "The Many Faces of Go" is an outstanding and user-friendly software package.

I'll NEVER think of coconut oil in the same way again....

5 Scorching and Steamy Stars!!!!

You know that moment you pick up a new book and you think you know what to expect because the author has been teasing for a few weeks that this is her dirtiest book ever... yeah it's that and SO MUCH MORE!!!!

The pace of this book is so wonderfully written and it moves with ease between comedic statements and hotter than hot sex up against the wall! One night out with her best friend, Banner, who by the way needs her own book, results in an over the top personal ad, alluding to all sorts of over the top sexual acts... I was rolling on the train while reading these chapters. One of my favorite lines after she realizes what she's done....

"And on that note, I'm so terribly sorry, alcohol, but we need to break up."

How many of us have said that before? LOL When Cav "answers" her ad, things escalate and quickly in the very best of ways. I sat enthralled while reading Ms. March's words as I just couldn't pull myself away from the deliciousness of this story.

Greer and Cav have known each other for a few years, but it was before he became Mr. Hollywood and didn't think he was worthy of Greer. Greer on the other hand has wondered what happened that caused Cav to not pursue her while they were in
the same zip code. When Cav finally lets Greer in on his reasoning, my heart broke just a little bit in all they lost because of his misguided feelings....

"Do you really believe I'm that shallow? That I care what you did for a living?...It's called pride Greer."

Cav is determined to get Greer now that he's "worthy" in his eyes and Greer wants to explore what could be between them, but there are some definite obstacles in the way. And what happens when obstacles block your path? You evade them as long as possible which is what these two do and with the evasion, comes some of the most sizzling, red-hot, set the sheets on fire sex I've EVER read... and I read A LOT!!! These two are so made for each other. Cav fills a role for Greer that I don't think she knew she needed.

"I should be blushing at the things I'm saying to Cav, but something about him destroys my filters. This level of need surging through me is unique to him - totally raw and primal."

Just because Greer is finding out that an alpha male, which Cav fits the bill to a T, she has some of her own dominance showing up on occasion and Cav is the very happy recipient of that dominance....

"It's an odd compulsion, but I can't ignore the power I feel at the thought of having this powerful man at my mercy."

One of the other things I especially loved about this book is that Ms. March has some of this book set in places that as one of her most loyal fans I recognized from her posts on social media. It was almost like being there with her!

There is somewhat of a mystery brewing in this book that at the end I was "WHAT?"

There are so many other things about this book that I loved, but I can't go into detail about them as that will give spoilers and ruin what is by far, as Ms. March has repeatedly said, her dirtiest book ever!! And I want so much more of it...

Finally finished the book I've been pining for!! Yes I got my hand on this delicious “Dirty Girl”! Hell it's mouthwatering and scorching!!! God it's a little warm in here now! You may need to change your panties a few times. Oh also have a fan near by too.

She sucked us into “Dirty Girl” with its gluttonous world. With everything a girl could want lust, power and an alpha male! Then bam!!! The rug from under us is pulled out! Bloody hell!! How can Meghan March mess with my mind like that? I truly think her brilliant mind has it out for us! I thought I knew how it was going to turn out! Well hell I was wrong!!!
Really!! You must be kidding me right now? What the Heck was that ending?????? Then I'm at a lost waiting and yearning for my next book! Now I need a drink or more.

No major editing issues

First off I should say I love this author. I have yet to read a book by her I haven't loved and this book is no exception. I loved the first trilogy based around the Karas family so I knew I would love this one as well. The author has a way of writing leading men that you know you should hate but can't help but love and the amount of steam in this book is insane.

Greer makes bad decisions when she is drunk...her latest involved taking out a personal ad asking for a guy with a huge...ahem...to show her ex what he just lost. What she doesn't expect is for a guy from her past...the one that got away...to be the one to show up on her front door proving he is the man for the job by dropping his pants.

Cav walked away from Greer 3 years ago because he knew he wasn't good enough for her then. He wanted to make something of himself in order to be worthy of her. Well he certainly has because now he is one of Hollywoods leading men.

Things between them take off like a rocket but can't the secrets and betrayals be put behind them so that they can start anew or will it all come crashing down in the most epic way possible.

Since this is the first book in a duet you can bet that there will be an epic cliffhanger in your near future. Can't wait to get started on the next book.

Not just for preppers

I just finished reading this amazing book! It is one of the most comprehensive guides that I have read (and I have read many). It truly is an encyclopedia of self medical care and is over 900 pages LONG!!! He teaches the reader how to make soap, wound-care products, insecticide, sun block, toothpaste and so much more. It includes how to set up an emergency medical chest, with descriptions of everything you need to treat any medical problem that could arise. It also has a great reading list to further explore any of the subjects he writes about. Best of all, it's easy to read and understand!!!

it is an awesome reference! For EVERYONE

This book is an encyclopedic length reference manual of over 900 pages , including everything you need to know to treat any medical problem from routine fevers to snakebites , there is even a chapter on Ebola .
The section on how to build your own medical chest is especially helpful so you will be able to treat problems when there are no doctors or medicine available. There is a large section on nutrition and how to grow healthy plants from the soil up . It also teaches you how to make everything you will need in a survival situation.....Soap, toothpaste, sunblock....For the Preppers, it is an awesome reference! For EVERYONE...it is an awesome
guide to everyday needs too. VERY INTERESTING read...Prepper or not!

This is an incredibly well-informed book which exceeds its intentions; the information is helpful for all situations, not just a post apocalyptic scenario. Whether you are an avid boater, private pilot, camper, hunter, or outdoorsman of any kind, the knowledge embedded throughout this book will prove itself useful. This should be a staple of anyone’s bug-out bag or home first-aid kit. It is written in such a way that is understandable to everyone, not just those in the medical profession. Definitely worth its weight — and it weighs a lot :-P
